Bill Explainer uses a robust role-based access control system, enabling different levels of access for different user roles. Each role has specific permissions designed to simplify the experience for admins, editors, and viewers.
The user access control system within the Data Ingestion core of Bill Explainer ensures that only authorized users can create, modify, publish, or delete data ingestion rules. Publishing permissions are restricted to users with Publisher or Admin roles and only CSG-assigned users may hold the Admin role. Most client users will typically be assigned Viewer, Editor, or Publisher roles.
This governance mechanism protects the integrity of data pipelines, enforces compliance standards, and enables transparency through detailed audit logging.
User permissions such as read, edit, save, and publish are managed by the CSG team via backend updates. Role assignments are centralized and controlled by CSG, clients do not manage user access or permissions within the Studio interface. Instead, clients submit a list of users and their intended roles to CSG, then it assigns roles via backend configuration. Role management is not available in the UI today.
If you do not have publishing access, you can still view, map, and save drafts but you cannot push changes live.
Also, introduced an audit trail feature that tracks content publishing actions, including who published, when, and what content was published. This log is securely stored and can be accessed by the CSG support team for verification, ensuring full accountability for all published content. It helps prevent unauthorized publishing and supports compliance needs.

Getting Started for Admins
Admins oversee the overall setup and management of Bill Explainer, including integration and configuration tasks. Admin-level permissions are maintained by CSG only. Clients will not have access to this role.
Responsibilities
Admins are responsible for managing the integration of invoice data feeds.
They configure system settings, such as user roles and permissions, and ensure that the branding and content settings reflect the client’s guidelines.
Manage tokenized URL access for users, ensuring secure and easy access for customers.
Manage data ingestion rules (create, modify, publish, delete) within the Data Ingestion core to maintain secure and accurate data pipelines.
Getting Started for Editors
Editors manage and maintain the content on the Bill Explainer site using the Studio module.
Responsibilities
Editors are responsible for defining and updating content such as bill sections, item descriptions, and visual branding elements.
They can also adjust the voice and tone of AI-generated insights to match the brand’s communication style.
Editors can update Data Ingestion mappings and save drafts in the Data Ingestion core, but only Publishers or CSG Admins can publish or delete them. All changes are tracked and reviewed for security and audit purposes.
Getting Started for Viewers
Viewers primarily include call center agents who need access to Bill Explainer to assist customers with billing inquiries.
Responsibilities
Viewers can access and walk through the Bill Explainer site alongside customers in real-time, helping them resolve billing-related questions quickly.
They will also have access to any associated bill insights and explanations, enabling faster resolution of customer queries.
