Event Mapping allows you to define the key moments from your uploaded dataset as Journey Steps or Interactions, enabling meaningful behavioral analysis within Xponent.
Review the unique values returned within the Events column of your uploaded file.
Use the Event Type dropdown to classify each Event as either:
Journey Step - a key moment in the customer journey.
Interaction - an engagement between the customer and a specific channel.
In the Name column:
Select an existing Journey Step or Interaction from the dropdown, or
Create a new one by typing its name into the field and clicking the blue Create button that appears once the full name is typed.
After creating the new name, you can manually add a description and define the Eng. Score / Outcome as needed.
For Journey Steps, define an Outcome (Positive, Negative, or Neutral). For Interactions, provide a Value as the Engagement Score (positive or negative non-decimal number)
If you select an existing Name, the associated metadata (description, outcome/score) will be filled in automatically.

Use the left-side checkboxes to include or exclude specific Events. Unmapped and checked Events will block submission.
You can now also save your progress at any time during the step using the Save option available in the top‑right corner, without needing to complete all required fields.
Once all required values are mapped, the Submit button will become active. Click Submit to finalize the Event Mapping and submit your file for processing.

Using Saved Mappings
Any new fields or events in your file that are not included in the saved mapping will remain unmapped and must be mapped manually.
If the saved mapping references a Journey Step or Interaction that has been deleted, you will need to recreate it before completing the mapping.
If a CSA saved mapping template includes an Interaction that was later deleted, you may face issues in this Event Mapping screen. You may not be able to select existing Interactions, create new ones, or remap Journey Steps. To handle this, recreate the deleted Interaction in Project Settings using the same name, submit a support ticket to restore it, or restart the CSA flow using a different Template that does not include the deleted Interaction.
Tips & Best Practices
Fields of selected existing Journey Steps or Interactions cannot be edited.
If an Interaction appears across multiple Channels, Xponent will automatically create separate instances of that Interaction, each tied to its respective Channel.
Use the checkbox next to each Event to control which Events are included in the upload.
All checked Events must be mapped before the system allows submission.
Use the manual Save option to regularly save your progress; this ensures you can return and continue from the latest saved state.
What To Choose Between a Journey Step and an Interaction
When mapping events in the Current-State Analytics workflow, it is important to correctly classify each event as either a Journey Step or an Interaction. This classification determines how the event will be interpreted and used in analytics.
A Journey Step represents a key milestone in a customer’s journey. These are broader events that reflect meaningful progress toward a desired goal or outcome.
For Example, completing a purchase, submitting a payment, or signing up for an account would all be considered Journey Steps. These events are typically long-term in nature and may span multiple channels.
An Interaction, on the other hand, represents a specific, granular action taken by a customer within a particular channel. These events are more immediate and short-term.
For Example: It include clicking a link in an email, viewing a page, or tapping a push notification. Interactions help you track behavior at each touchpoint and understand engagement patterns.
If you are unsure which type to use, think about whether the event marks a milestone (Journey Step) or a specific user action (Interaction). Choosing the right type ensures your analytics remain meaningful and actionable.
